How to use the Mobile App "Tree Portal"

In this App, we shall acquire the key skills of VTA by inspecting systematically different parts of a tree and its growth site. You will learn 100 most common symptoms with the help of drawings, each accompanied by concise verbal explanations in two bullet points (listed in the website page “Tree Knowledge”). Usually, one tree will suffer from a limited number of discernible health or structural problems.

We shall firstly focus on the whole tree to assess the tree form (Section A). Subsequently, we shall inspect the remaining symptoms by dividing the tree and the site into 15 parts, allowing each to be studied in detail and in a logical sequence. We begin with the ground including the planting site, adjacent paving, soil and surface roots (Sections B to E). We then move upwards to evaluate five aspects of the trunk (Sections F to J). Next, we look at the top of the trunk where you can find the junction between one or more pairs of first-order (the largest) branches, known as the crotch or fork (Section K). After that, we can evaluate four aspects of the branches (Sections L to O). Lastly, we shall identify some common symptoms expressed by leaves and associated twigs (Section P).
